For immediate release: May 05, 2011 Posted by: [DNR] Contact: Gehlhausen Phone: (812) 685-2447 Email: dnrnews@dnr.in.gov Patoka Lake Heritage Day on Saturday, May 21 Join in the celebration of Patoka Lake's past on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Patoka Lake Visitor Center.
Activities for all ages include old-time games and tin punch crafts. Displays and demonstrations will include antique farm machinery, living history programs, old time music, wooden toys, quilting, blacksmiths and much more.
Enjoy a presentation on Native American life in Indiana with special guest and history researcher Mark Gehlhausen. Take a short walk and hear stories of the Moery and Dillard families. Tour the 1800s Moery Family Cabin, that was reconstructed at the Patoka Lake Visitor Center.
Award-winning horse rider and trainer Denise Behr will discuss shoeing, grooming and training methods with her horse, Secretary. Enjoy outdoor cast iron cooking demonstrations, a hike through time, and costumed characters.
Valeene Christian Church, will provide a variety of food and baked goods throughout the event.
The standard gate fee of $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents and $7 per vehicle for out-of-state visitors will be in effect.
