For immediate release: May 18, 2011 Posted by: [DNR] Contact: Mary Hayes Phone: (317) 549-0348 Email: dnrnews@dnr.in.gov DNR Project WILD presentation for educators at Purdue DNR's Project WILD, and Purdue University faculty and Extension staff will join together to provide an introduction to the unique interactions between wildlife and forests during The Nature of Teaching: Forest Ecology course offered at Purdue, June 27-July 1 (www.purdue.edu/nature).
All registration paperwork must be completed by Friday, May 20.
The course features content-rich presentations, interdisciplinary hands-on classroom activities from Project WILD, field experiences, and a trunk of take-home resources for use in the classroom.
The content will focus on the forest ecosystem as a whole, but will highlight succession, tree identification, and current university salamander research. Participants will experience the principles of scientific inquiry applied to real world natural resources research projects through amphibian sampling and marking, optional evening frog call monitoring, and a trip to the Hardwood Ecosystem Experiment.
