Indiana Fishing Report 5/21/2011 The Weekend Report
Mushrooms are still popping up. The big yellow morels are being found. It's been a good mushroom season ! This just might be the last week for them here in central and southern Indiana.
Farm Ponds: Ponds and pits have been good for bluegill and crappie. Crappie are in 3 to 15 feet deep water being taken on bobber and minnows, beetle spins, and small straight line spinners. A few nice bass being taken on jig & pig, and plastic baits. Bluegill, bass, and crappie are on the beds, or spawning.
Ohio River Fishing Report: Water clarity is clearing up as the river returns to a more normal level. Sauger fishing has been good, and anglers have been fishing the pier's by vertical jigging with ¼ oz. or smaller jigging sthingys. Other methods for sauger fishing on the river include cast and a slow retrieve off the bottom of jigs with pearl or chartreuse twister tails tipped with a minnow. Catfishing has been picking up in the evenings and early mornings, try night crawlers or chicken livers. Anglers fishing for catfish have also reeled in the occasional hybrid striped bass. Smallmouth bass fishing has been fair, try casting spinner baits, crankbaits, tube baits or top water “walk-the-dog” style baits off of stony points.
Eagle Creek Reservoir: A very good bite for crappie. Small jigs tipped with plastic or minnows are taking fish in 3 to 15 feet deep water.
Prairie Creek reservoir: Anglers report a good bite for walleye.
Greene-Sullivan State Forest Lakes: Fishing has been good for a mixed bag of fish. Bluegill, crappie and bass are being taken. Fish are fanning beds. Some nice catches of bluegill are being taken.
White River: High and muddy. All fishing is poor due to high water conditions.
Cataract Lake: Cagles Mill Lake (Lieber SRA):
FLOODING UPDATE 5/18: Due to recent heavy rains, all boat ramps at Lieber SRA (Cagles Mill) are currently closed. Campers are still able to access the property from SR231 by taking i-70 to exit 37 and taking SR243 to the property. At Cataract Falls SRA, the road to the Lower Falls is also closed. Please contact Lieber for more specific information. Thank you
Patoka lake: A word of caution to anglers parking at the Lick Fork ramp. People are breaking into cars and stealing items of value. The lake has dropped 5.5 ft approx. from the high flood stage, dropping almost a foot a day, so you can now get under most bridges with bass boats for sure. I haven't been around 145 bridge, but Painter creek is good to go. and so are most other ramps. Lake right now is 544 and inches.
Anglers who are getting out on are catching crappie. Fish are being caught up the Little Patoka River on 1/8 oz. jigs and 3 inch grubs . Surface temperatures were reading 68 - 70 degrees
Monroe Reservoir: Monroe Lake
ALL CAMPING AND SHELTER FACILITIES ARE CLOSED AT PAYNETOWN SRA THRU AT LEAST JUNE 1ST, POSSIBLY LONGER. Anyone with reservations between now and June 1, 2011, will be contacted by the reservation call center and full refunds will be issued.
Anglers getting out on Monroe are catching crappie Fish being caught on the main lake in 7 - 12 feet of water on Southern Pro 1/8 oz. jigs and Berkley 3 in. Power Grubs .
Good Fishing Everyone
