For immediate release: Aug 02, 2011 Posted by: [DNR] Contact: Coletta Prewitt Phone: (812) 849-3534 Email: dnrnews@dnr.in.gov Spring Mill hosts Pioneer Heritage Days, Aug. 6-7 Spring Mill State Park this Saturday and Sunday will celebrate Pioneer Heritage Days, an event that explores what everyday life was like during Indiana's frontier period.
New for this year's Pioneer Heritage Days is a visit by the oxen from O'Bannon Woods State Park. The interpretive staff will display the oxen in the Pioneer Village from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, and explain how oxen played a vital role in transportation from the village of Spring Mill to the nearby boatyard at White River.
Visitors can also watch hairpin lace making, learn finger tatting, and see spinning, quilting and other pioneer crafts
Pioneer Heritage Days is located in the park's Pioneer Village.
Park admission during the event is $5 per vehicle for in-state residents and $7 per vehicle for out-of-state residents. Annual entrance passes for 2011 are also available.
