[DNR] Harvesting ginseng and goldenseal from DNR properties is prohibited Start Date: 9/19/2011 End Date: 9/19/2011 Entry Description Harvesting ginseng, goldenseal (aka yellowroot), and other plants is illegal on all DNR properties. Although ginseng is currently in season, it can be harvested only on private property, with the permission of the landowner. Public Law 107 (IC 14-4-8) and the Ginseng Rule (312 IAC 19) prohibit all digging on state property. The purpose of these regulations is to ensure a healthy ginseng population for the future. Details of the ginseng regulations are at www.in.gov/dnr/naturepreserve/files/ginseng99.pdf. The only items that may be removed legally from DNR properties are nuts, fruits, berries and mushrooms.
