Chinook salmon or king salmon
Bait: Sthingys, bodybaits
Depth: Greater than 60 FOW
Comments about fish: MC boat anglers report action for cohos, kings & steelhead straight out from the mouth of Trail Cr in water depths ranging from 58-80 FOW. D/F combos along with sthingys fished 35-65' down proved effective. Portage Marina boat anglers stated action was occurring N of the “ditch” in water depths to 130 FOW. Anglers were catching cohos, kings & lake trout using D/F combos, sthingys & bodybaits anywhere from 60-125' down. EC boat anglers reported very good action over the weekend with good numbers of kings, along with steelhead, lake trout & even a few brown trout were also caught. Action was occurring N to NE of the gong in water depths between 60-75 FOW. Again, D/F & magnum sized sthingys in either blue or green were the top producing lures.
Coho salmon
Bait: Dodger & Fly combos, sthingys
Depth: Greater than 60 FOW
Comments about fish: See chinook salmon report. EC boat anglers reported very good action over the weekend, with big numbers of coho salmon caught. Action was occurring N to NE of the gong in water depths between 60-75 FOW.
Lake trout
Bait: Sthingys
Depth: 75 FOW & greater
Comments about fish: See chinook salmon report. Sthingys fished within 10' of the bottom proved successful for lake trout.
Rainbow or steelhead trout
Bait: Lake: sthingys, bodybaits Pier: shrimp, N/C, alewife, wobbler type sthingys
Depth: 4-9' under a bobber
Comments about fish: See king salmon report for lake action. Over the past week, steelhead action was hit or miss off the Lighthouse Pier in MC according to IDNR creel clerks. Anglers caught steelhead on a variety of baits & lures including shrimp or alewife’s 4-9' under a slip bobber, spinners & orange wobbler type sthingys. According to the anglers, most of the action is happening before daybreak. As for the creeks, productive baits & lures this time of year for steelhead include shrimp or N/C under a float, spinners with black, brass or orange blades & small jigs tipped with waxworms. Good areas to fish include the deeper holes & runs & undercut banks or log jams adjacent to deeper water.
Smallmouth bass
Bait: Minnow, nightcrawlers, tube jigs, small crankbaits
Depth: 3-10 FOW
Comments about fish: SMB action continues to be good in southern LM with the majority of the action taking place out of the EC Marina. Anglers have stated that action is occurring along the Inland Steel Wall, along the rocky rip rap on the N side of the marina & over at Gary’s Light. Other good areas to try include the rocky rip rap on the N side of Hammond Marina & the submerged breakwater. Anglers have also had good luck along the outside of the Port of Indiana breakwall. Anglers have stated that tube jigs & deep diving crankbaits resembling gobies have been effective. Look for SMB to congregate on man-made structure or rocky rip rap in southern LM.
Yellow perch
Bait: Minnows, soft-shell crabs
Depth: Up to 42 FOW
Comments about fish: YP action picked up late last week. Anglers fishing out of MC caught perch out-front of Mt. Baldy & over to Blacks Ditch in water depths to 42 FOW. Portage anglers harvested limits out-front of the “ditch” in 20-25 FOW. EC perch anglers reported action along the east side of the marina in water depths to 20 FOW. Minnows were the top producing bait with soft-shell crabs coming in at a distant second. Anglers started to pick up a few perch off the fishing platform at the EC Marina using minnows under a slip bobber.
Comments about body of water:
Water temp in the harbor of MC & Trail Ck at Friendship Gardens was 64ºF as of this morning. Area tribs are exhibiting average flows with poor visibility. Anglers can expect little change over the next couple of days as scattered showers are predicted for the region. Beginning 6/16/2010 at 12:01 AM, area stream closures will be lifted & anglers will be able to access the lower sections of their favorite creeks in search of steelhead. Until then, the following sections of streams are closed to all fishing: The E Br of the Little Cal River in Porter County from US 12 upstream to US 20 & Trail Cr in LaPorte County from the Franklin Street Bridge in MC upstream to US 35.

The lake level is 750.22 or 2.22 feet above summer pool. Catching channel cats. Fisheries survey said that the most numerous fish in the lake is the channel catfish , second most is bluegill.

Comments about fish: Not much action on crappie at this time. Most anglers are concentrating on bluegill and redear.
Bluegill
Bait: Redworms and crickets
Depth: Shallow to 12 ft.
Comments about fish:
Bluegill fishing pressure remains high. Success has slackened. Larger 'gills have moved into deeper water along weed beds and near structure.
Channel catfish
Bait: Live bait and worms
Depth: 8 to 12 feet
Comments about fish: A few are being taken on limb lines and trotlines. Some action for the handline fishermen late afternoon through dusk. Trotline/limbline permits will be issued beginning Thursday, April 1, 2010 and running through Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010*. *Please Note: This date may change. Ending date for trotline permits is subject to the beginning date of the October Waterfowl Season dates as determined by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Largemouth bass
Bait: Artificial worms, crank baits
Depth: Shallow to 15'
Comments about fish: Trolling and and using artificial worms (dark in color). A few keepers reported but mostly under size limit being caught. (under 15") Success still spotty. Anglers going for panfish are catching all sizes of largemouth bass but mostly under 15 inches. Bass are schooling during early morning hours and late evening until dark. Crank baits are most successful during these time periods.
Redear sunfish
Bait: Redworms and crickets
Depth: 8 - 12 ft.
Comments about fish: Same as bluegills. In deeper water along weed beds and near structure along old roadbeds.

Dogwood Lake is approximately 3 inches above pool and water is clear and the temperature is 76-79 degrees F in deep water with 80+ degrees being registered by mid afternoon. The forecast for this area for the next week indicates unsettled weather with a chance for thunderstorms/ showers every day through Sunday. Daytime air temperatures are predicted in the high 80's to low 90's with lows in the low to mid 70 degree range.
