For immediate release: Aug 02, 2010 Posted by: [DNR] Contact: Brad Bumgardner Phone: (219) 926-1390 Email: dnrnews@dnr.in.gov Perseid Stargaze at Indiana Dunes State Park, Aug. 14 Indiana Dunes State Park Interpretive Services will host its 4th Annual Perseid Meteor Stargaze on Aug. 14, from 8:30 to 11 p.m., at the Tremont Shelter area. Activities begin at 8:30 p.m. at the Tremont Shelter Lawn. Stories on Native American sky lore from the state park interpretive naturalists will kick things off. By 9 p.m. the stars will begin to appear. Constellation talks will highlight the many star formations that can be viewed over the dunes this time of year. Afterward, visitors are welcome to bring a blanket or chair to view the many "shooting stars" that take place during the annual Perseid meteor shower. All activities depend on favorable weather and are free after the standard $5 per vehicle ($10 out-of-state) entrance gate fee.
