Raccoon S.R.A. annual Pedal Parade, Aug. 7
Raccoon State Recreation Area will offer an all-ages bicycle parade on Aug. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m.
At 8 p.m., guests can join guest speaker Bill Houk, Leave No Trace Master Educator, for a presentation of the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace.
Participants can join the interpretive staff for a brief bicycle safety demonstration, followed by time to decorate bikes before riding through the campground, parade style. A limited amount of decorating supplies will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring any special items they would like to make their bike look unique.
Leave No Trace is a national and international program designed to assist outdoor enthusiasts with their decisions about how to reduce their impacts when they hike, camp, picnic, snowshoe, run, bike, hunt, paddle, ride horses, fish, ski or climb. The program strives to educate all those who enjoy the outdoors about the nature of their recreational impacts as well as techniques to prevent and minimize such impacts. Leave No Trace is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set of rules and regulations.
All programs take place at the Chapel Shelter and are free of charge, although standard park admission fees of $5 for Indiana vehicles and $7 for out-of-state vehicles apply.
Raccoon SRA is located on U.S. Hwy. 36 in Parke and Putnam counties in west central Indiana, 50 miles west of Indianapolis and 35 miles northeast of Terre Haute.
