Indiana Info Fishing Report Saturday, September 11, 2010.
Fishing the southern 2/3rds of the state has slowed down everywhere, with one exception being pits and ponds. Many areas still have had no rain, and woods and forests are really dry ! Hopefully the sky will open up on us this coming weekend, and if it does I expect the fish to turn on big time !!
Farm Ponds and pits (No Change): Farm ponds and strip pits are either off or on. Some areas have still had no rain, and the bites slowing. Areas that have gotten rain the bite is good. Some ponds and pits are not producing many fish, while others have a good bite. Deeper ponds and pits are producing nice catch's. Channel cats being taken at night. Bass being taken on plastic's in and around structure. A few crappie being taken in 8 to 15 feet deep water.
White river Noblesville to Washington Indiana: River levels are very low. I found one spot where I could walk all the way across near Martinsville. A few smallmouth being caught around Noblesville. Carp in the Indianapolis area, and trash fish further south. A few small flatheads around Martinsville, Paragon, and the Washington Indiana areas. All fishing has slowed.
Monroe Reservoir:
Lake level: 541.22 feet.
Current Levels
Normal pool level: 538 feet.
Ramps open: All open.
Fishing conditions:
Largemouth bass: Fish deeper points and breaks with jigs. Emerging weed lines have produced fish.
Bluegill: Fish can be found on top of breaks and along emerging weed lines.
Hybrid striped bass: Fish have spread out. There is some surface activity. Try live bait slow trolled over schools.
Largemouth bass: Fish deeper points and breaks with jigs. Emerging weed lines have produced fish.
Crappie: Fish near underwater structures and you should find fish.
Cataract, or Cagles Mill Lake: Lots of dink crappie being caught in 15-25 feet deep water. Bass are deep and being caught on plastic baits and jigs.
Raccoon Lake: Water temperature was 74. Crappie are 8-15 feet down in 25 feet of water and being caught around around docks and bridges. A few bass being caught around docks.
Sugar Creek: The smallmouth bite has slowed and fly fishermen are catching rock bass and green sunfish.
Ohio River: Anglers are reporting nice size catches of blue catfish on frozen skipjack. They are also taking flathead catfish on chicken livers. I was surprised by this report as live bait is usually the key for flatheads, but the chicken livers are tearing them up. A few striped bass being caught below locks and dams.
Shakamak State Park and the Greene-Sullivan State Forest: A mixed bag. Some pits are very poor fishing while others have a decent bite. Bluegill being caught in 10 to 15 feet deep water. A few bass around points and outside weedlines in 14 to 20 feet deep water.
Wabash river: Lots of trash fish being caught. Gar, Asian carp, sturgeon, and paddlefish. Cat fishing has slowed way down with very few reported being caught.
Patoka lake: Slow, with only a few bass and small crappie being taken. Bass are hitting spinnerbaits and plastics. Good carp fishing at night.
Good fishing everyone !! Please make sure to wear those life jackets !!
