Autumn Harvest Hoedown, Pokagon State Park, Sept. 25
The 26th Annual Autumn Harvest Hoedown at Pokagon State Park is set for Saturday night, Sept. 25, sponsored by the Steuben County Tourism Bureau.
Free of charge and open to the public, the Hoedown runs 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the South Beach Parking Lot. In case of inclement weather, it will be held in the CCC Shelter.
Music and square dancing will highlight the evening. The Prairie Fire String Band, the "house band" for years, returns, featuring banjo, string bass, guitars, fiddle, penny whistle, hammer dulcimer, mandolin, and multi-voiced harmonies. A square-dance caller will also be on hand. No experience is required for dancing (as a matter of fact, none is preferred!).
A catered cookout and snacks will be provided by Angola Boy Scout Troop 125. A campfire will warm participants off to the side. Lawn chairs or blankets for seating are recommended.
Although the program is free and open to all, the normal park entrance fee of $5 per in-state vehicle or $7 per out-of-state vehicle will be charged, or you can use your annual entrance pass. Both are available at the park front gate. For further information, call the park at (260) 833-2012.
