Harrison-Crawford State Forest 'Open Door' Day, Sept. 29
People interested in how the Harrison-Crawford State Forest is run can share their views and ask questions on Sept. 29, when property staff will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. EDT, at the State Forest office.
Staff will be on hand to answer questions concerning budget, staffing, major projects, the 2008-13 DNR Division of Forestry Strategic Plan, invasive species and forest resource management. Attendees can talk directly with Division of Forestry personnel or, if they prefer, submit written comments.
"These events provide Hoosiers with a chance to receive firsthand information about how the State Forests are working to provide diverse wildlife habitat, forest products and recreational opportunities," said State Forester John Seifert. "They also allow us to receive valuable feedback from our neighbors and users about State Forest management. I encourage everyone who has an interest to participate."
Those who cannot attend can review and comment online. All tract management guides are posted at www.IN.gov/dnr/forestry/3635.htm. Click on the link to "Indiana State Forests," then "Public Comment."
To find the Harrison-Crawford State Forest office, go west from Corydon or east from Leavenworth on Indiana 62. Turn onto Indiana 462 and proceed 3 miles to the entrance gate for the O'Bannon Woods State Park. Once past the O'Bannon gate, go another 1,200 feet and turn left on O'Bannon's swimming pool road. Follow about 880 feet and turn left into parking lot. The State Forest office is at the far end of the white building.
The DNR Division of Forestry promotes and practices good stewardship of natural, recreational and cultural resources on Indiana's public and private forest lands. This stewardship produces continuing benefits, both tangible and intangible, for present and future generations.
