Are you ready for some . Outdoor Experiences?
This Saturday and Sunday is the Hoosier Outdoor Experience at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis, aka another football weekend.
In a sense, it's rivalry weekend, one event versus the other.
The Experience happens one weekend a year; football happens every weekend until, what, Groundhog Day? There's always next weekend.
Price-wise, the Experience wins, hands down. It's free. No matter the level of football, you're probably paying. With family, you're paying a lot. And you're probably paying for parking, then hoofing it to the stadium, then shelling out high-end prices for low-end food and beverages.
At the Experience, food is reasonably priced. And you can bring your own.
In football, your ticket grants you the privilege of squeezing into a narrow seat. If your team doesn't win, you go home disappointed.
Watching a televised game is cheaper but you'll have to endure those long, boring TV timeouts. And if your team doesn't win, you stay home disappointed.
Football means no guarantees other than spending money. And sitting.
The second annual Hoosier Outdoor Experience guarantees free parking, admission, activities, demonstrations and seminars for the whole family. You'll get the opportunity to try-not just watch-more than 50 outdoor activities taught by experts while surrounded by 1,700 acres of state park breathing room. Activity areas include aquatics, cultural, equestrian, outdoors and wildlife. Shuttles will take participants from area to area.
Still can't choose? Why not both? Remember, Colts kickoff isn't until 8 p.m. Sunday, well after the Experience wraps up.
The Hoosier Outdoor Experience is presented by the DNR and the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.
If you're ready for some outdoor experiences, go to hoosieroutdoorexperience.IN.gov to learn more. "Another football weekend" will arrive soon enough.
