Celebrate the exciting and colorful season at Patoka Lake's annual Autumn Getaway Weekend Friday, October 15th and Saturday October 16th. Join in a friendly competition for the Campsite Decorating Contest. All programs take place in the modern campgrounds at the shelter house and the DNR tents.
Friday October 15th, Campers bring canned vegetables for Friendship Stew at 5p.m. to the modern campgrounds center shelterhouse. Naturalists & Volunteers will cook the stew, ready to serve at 7p.m. Bring family & friends, lawn chairs, insect repellent, crackers & snacks, bowls and eating utensils. Join the naturalist as we gather around the campfire with Friendship Stew and a friendly family game of Patoka Jeopardy.
On Saturday, October 16th from 9-11a.m. enjoy "Fall Family Fun" with crafts, activities and games. Bring your own pumpkin and carving tools. With paint and nature supplies provided (or bring your own), create your special jack-o-lantern. Bring a pre-washed white cotton T-shirt, canvas bag or other item for the Tie-Dying, supplies provided. Enjoy activities of facepainting, corn hole toss game, scavenger hunt and more for all ages! Look for the TENT in Campgrounds Section A near the gatehouse.
At 12 noon, sign up for the 8th annual Dutch Oven Cook-Off Competition. With creative flair, Dutch ovens and supplies, create a dish from 12:30 - 3p.m.; to be judged as well as a 3:30p.m. sampling by the public. Patoka for the public. From 12:30-4p.m., enjoy Patoka Jeopardy, afternoon programs at the CCS (modern campgrounds center shelterhouse). Beginning at 1p.m. guest Bill Houk will share the art of enjoying the outdoors, followed by 2p.m. Trees & Forests with USDA specialist Brandi Williams exploring the exciting world of our woodlands. DNR O'Bannon Woods Naturalist will present "Snakes of Indiana" with live guests!
At 3:30p.m., TASTE OF PATOKA offers campers a taste of the Dutch Oven Cooking dishes as well as cast iron chili, prepared and served by DNR staff and volunteers. Bring a bowl or cup, tableware, crackers & chips to share and preferred drinks & join in this community affair.
Bring your pets, in costume if preferred, for the 5p.m. pet parade with a special guest grand marshall. Pets must be on a leash. Pet costume contest conducted after parade.
Please have your campsites decorated by 5 p.m. for the evening events and decorating contest. Campers 12 years of age and under invited to "Trick or Treat" from 5:30-7p.m. around the campgrounds.
Join in an enjoyable evening, beginning at 7:30p.m. featuring special guest presenter Andrea Oeding, Bloomington Wild Care Animal Rehab. Andrea and several special guests share the work benefiting orphaned and injured wildlife. Bring family, friends, neighbors to see the amazing master magician Tom Crecelius, Milltown, Indiana, guaranteed to delight & bedazzle all ages.
At 9p.m. winners will be announced for the Dutch Oven Cook-Off as well as Campsite Decorating Contest.
