Indiana Info Fishing Report Oct. 17, 2010
I've been seeing several good reports of crappie fishing in many lakes, but the bite is still hit and miss. Some lakes are producing while others haven't turned on yet. The best bite remains to be in early morning hours.
Farm Ponds and pits: The bite in the pits and ponds is good with cooler temperatures. Bass being caught on several different lures and baits. A good bite for bluegill in around 4 to 10 feet deep water. Crappie are in 5 to 15 feet deep water being taken on jigs, and slip bobbers with minnows and have moved into shallow water. Channel cats are hitting at night.
White river fishing report: We did get some rain yesterday, just not enough, and the river remains low. Cat fishing is slow. A few Flatheads and blue cats are being caught in deeper holes on cut bait, live bait, and night crawlers. Channel cats being taken on night crawlers. Carp fishing is fair. Some nice small mouth being taken in the Noblesville and Martinsville areas.
Morse Reservoir fishing report: Some nice carp being caught below the spillway.
Brookville reservoir: A variety of fish being caught, but not catch many keepers. The shad population in the lake is unbelievable they are all over. We did get into a mess of white bass one evening that where chasing the shad on the surface. You could throw into the explosion and hit a fish with every cast. It was only for about an hour though.
Monroe reservoir fishing report: Crappie and yellow bass are being caught. Fish are suspended around stick ups in the back of the coves on the main lake in 12 feet of water . Bait 1/8 oz. Nothead Jigs and minnows . Water temperature was reading 64 degrees.
Another report from Monroe: I have been catching plenty of crappie using the yum black and chart. grub. tipped with a white crappie nibble.
My wife has been using the southern pro. 1/32 0z with a green and chart lil hustler tipped with a chart. crappie nibble.
Though when the bite slows we switch to the knothead jig, and go through he colors till we hit one.
Cataract lake (No change): Lots of dink crappie, a few bass being caught on plastics.
Raccoon Lake fishing report (No change): Lots and lots of small crappie being caught. Crappie are in 8 to 20 feet deep water and the bite is fair. The striper fishing has been poor. Bass fishing is improving. The fishing area off highway 36 on the east side of the bridge has been good for cat and carp fishing.
Sugar Creek fishing report (No Change): Water levels are very low. Anglers wading are catching rock bass, bluegill, and small mouth bass. Small jigs and rooster tails are catching fish.
Greene-Sullivan State Forest (No change): Crappie are moving into shallow water with several nice catch's being reported. Bass are being taken early mornings on plastic's, spinner baits, and top-waters. Bluegill are in 4-16 feet deep water and being taken on bee moth, crickets, and night crawlers.
Ohio River fishing report: Try fishing the embankments, near stream confluences, and near warm water discharges. Spinner baits, jig/pork combinations, and crank baits are good lures to try. Warm water discharges and stream confluences as well as the dam tail waters are good areas to fish for sauger - try using twister tail jigs and minnows. Sauger and hybrid striped bass have also been caught on big creek chubs or any deep-diving bait that resemble minnows. For hybrid striped bass and channel catfish stay in any of the tail waters. Channel cats are being caught on cut bait, live shad, chicken livers and worms.
Dogwood Lake fishing report: A good bite for pan fish. Bluegill, redear, and crappie. Bass fishing has improved and fish are being taken all over the lake.
Shakamak State Park: The fall bite is on at Shakamak State Park. Crappie are being caught around standing timber in Kickapoo and a 11 3/4" redear was caught in Lenape lake. Bass fishing is fair although fish spook easy in the clear water.
Patoka lake fishing report: Reports I've seen say the fishing is poor. Some how I have a hard time believing that with the cooler temperatures, but anglers are not catching many fish.
Hardy Lake: Good crappie fishing around the dam. Some nice channel cats being caught. A 28 pound flathead was taken.
A few deer being taken by bow hunters. There have been a several car-deer accidents at night and early mornings so be sure to watch out for them. If one should jump out in front of you do not swerve to avoid it. Just plow it on down. Most accidents that are personal injury come from drivers who swerve to avoid them and hit something else such as a tree, or embankment. Be careful out there !!
Good fishing everyone !! Please make sure to wear those life jackets !!
