New Midwinter Military Lecture Series coming to Fort Harrison SP in February 2011
The Museum of 20th Century Warfare at Fort Harrison State Park will host a month-long Midwinter Military Lecture Series beginning Saturday, February 5th until Saturday, February 26th at The Museum of 20th Century Warfare.
The Lecture Series offers military buffs with a detailed look at specific events that occurred during conflicts fought in the 20th Century. The schedule for the Series includes: "World War I" on February 5th, "The Eastern Front" on February 12th, "V Mail" on February 19th, and "Vietnam" on February 26th. Each lecture is 45 minutes long and meets in the Wallace Memorial Library in the Museum of 20th Century Warfare.
The Museum of 20th Century Warfare is a non-profit museum located on the grounds Fort Harrison State Park in Building 711. The Museum was opened in May, 2010 to promote the stories of the veterans that passed through the Fort from WWI through Desert Storm. In addition to exhibits on the soldiers of the Fort, the Museum maintains the scale model of the USS Indianapolis, the famed heavy cruiser torpedoed and sunk in the last weeks of WWII.
There is no cost to attend the program, but the normal $5/in-state or $7/out-of-state vehicle gate fee applies. Fort Harrison State Park is located at the corner of 59th and Post Rd in Lawrence, Indiana. For more information, please contact the visitor's center at 317-591-0122 Tuesday - Saturday, 8a - 4p. The Museum of 20th Century Warfare is located within Fort Harrison State Park and is open Wednesday - Sundays, 10a - 4p. There is no fee to visit the Museum but the normal DNR gate fee may apply.
